Stem Cell Therapy For Diabetes- An Effort To Cure Type 1 Diabetes

Opis:

What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease in which the body either cannot produce the hormone necessary to control blood sugar level or the body is not able to respond to the hormone.
Human beings need energy to work and function. Even inner body functions when a person is inert needs energy. This energy is provided by sugar in the body which is a carbohydrate metabolite. This sugar is available in the body in form of Glucose.
This glucose in the human blood has to maintain a certain level. It is between 70 mg to 110mg/dl while a person is fasting and between 110mg to 140 mg/dl 2 hours after taking food. Anything below or above this blood glucose level indicates something wrong in carbohydrate metabolism in that person.
Blood glucose level is controlled by a hormone, known as Insulin. This hormone is secreted by Beta cells present in the endocrine gland, named Islets of Langerhans. This Islets of Langerhans is situated in a person’s Pancreas.
Insulin is responsible for carbohydrate metabolism in human body. Carbohydrate produces glucose that remains in blood. The excess glucose must be metabolized into glycogen, which is stored in that person’s liver for further use. This is done by Insulin. Insulin also works as a Key that opens all the cells so that glucose can enter into them and the cells can function properly. If a person’s body is not either producing Insulin or his/her body is not responding to it, this glucose present in the person’s blood maintains an abnormally high level. This condition is known as Hyperglycemia. The opposite of the situation may also happen when blood glucose level falls to an abnormally low. This condition is called Hypoglycemia. Both these conditions are very dangerous for the person and can even be fatal.
Types of Diabetes-
Diabetes is classified in two types, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes, called Insulin dependent Diabetes or Juvenile Diabetes is the more severe form of Diabetes in a human. This type of Diabetes is thought to develop from early childhood but it can develop at any age.
Here, Insulin is not at all produced by islets and the cells fail to open to let the glucose enter into them. As a result, blood glucose level can only be controlled by injecting Insulin in the patient’s body.
Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of Diabetes which is also known as Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes.
This is an adult onset form of Diabetes, in which body does produce Insulin but fails to respond to it. Insulin may also be in less quantity than required. This form of Diabetes can be controlled with oral medication, diet and exercises.

Stem Cell Therapy for Diabetes
In Type 1 Diabetes where islets are not able to produce Insulin, Stem cells can be transplanted in Pancreas to differentiate into healthy islets cells, taking over blood glucose level control and regain normalcy. Stem Cell therapy can also be tried in cases of Type 2 Diabetes but it cannot be so responsive as islets still produce Insulin in such cases, may be in less than normal quantity.
